Nemacolin Castle was built by the Bowman family. It started out as a small building that was used as a trading post along the Monongahela River in 1789. Nelson Bowman, who was a member of the 2nd generation of the Bowman family to live in the house, built onto the original building to create the structure as it is today. The house is rumored to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad. There are many secret hiding spaces in the house, however, there is no documentation to prove that it actually was a part of the Underground Railroad.

Nemacolin Castle is reportedly a very haunted place with anywhere between 6 and 10 ghosts reported. All of the ghosts are friendly. Sometimes they show themselves, other times people just feel cold spots, hear unexplainable sounds, see movement out of the corner of their eyes, or catch orbs on film. Two of the ghosts that are often seen are Elizabeth, a "prim and proper" lady, and Mary, a seven year old girl with dark, curly hair.

We began the night by splittling off into 2 groups, however, we quickly learned that noise travels through the castle very easily and had to change plans.  We decided it would be best to do full group EVP sessions to avoid any interference.  We did several sessions with the entire group and some with members sitting out.  Try as we might, we could not get any activity on the K2 meter.  However, we did have several personal experiences including feeling cold spots, hair being touched, footsteps and EMF spikes.  We spent most of our time in the nursery, master bedroom, bishop's room and front hall (between the library and drawing rooms).

And then of course, there were the mannequins that often either just creeped you out or scared the living daylights out of you (like the lady in the hallway).  You know they are there, but still they catch you off guard at times and make you jump.

As for evidence, we did capture one interesting photo of what appears to be a moving orb (see nem04 picture above).  We also caught some interesting EVPs, but none as clear and peculiar as the "Eleanor Copeland" EVP caught in the front hall.  This one is clearly a male voice with a Southern drawl.  You can also hear a popping noise after the EVP (popping noises often happen before or after an EVP).  We are still researching what this name could mean.

Another interesting experience happened toward the end of the evening when we split into 2 groups, one in the master bedroom and one in the attic.  Both teams were slightly annoyed by the constant chatter of the other team only to find out later that neither team was actually talking.  Were we hearing a ghost party?  Odd indeed.
